Opening of the Plast year in Tasmania

On Saturday, 7 February, the Plast community in Tasmania gathered to officially mark the beginning of a new Plast year with a day full of activities, learning, and celebration.

The program began with drill practice, as participants worked together to strengthen their teamwork and coordination. This was followed by a formal opening assembly, where all age groups were warmly welcomed into the new year with the traditional threefold greetings: “Tsip-tsip,” “Hotuys!” and “SKOB.”

A special moment of the day was the recognition of Kateryna Zemnukhova, who was congratulated on receiving the rank of Plast Senior Member for Service.

Throughout the day, younger participants took part in engaging and educational games. During the game of Kim, novaks and novachky tested their memory skills by recalling Plast-related objects. They also enjoyed the lively game “Hey, from Lviv to Mukachevo, from Mukachevo to Kyiv!” (with thanks to Andrij Rebryk for sharing it), through which they learned fascinating facts about Ukrainian cities and their connections to significant Plast events.

Older youth participated in a virtual drone navigation session, gaining hands-on experience with new technology in an interactive setting.

No celebration would be complete without something sweet. Participants enjoyed a cake creatively decorated with the Plast logo by the youngest members, with support from Elena Sirchenko.

The day concluded with a discussion involving parents about plans and goals for Plast Tasmania in the year ahead.

The opening of the Plast year set a positive and energetic tone, with everyone looking forward to new knowledge, experiences, and achievements in the months to come.
