Plast Western Australia – June 29, 2025 Gatherings

On Sunday, 29 June 2025, a meeting of Plast members in Western Australia took place.

It was very productive:

  • novatstvo received a ‘riy’ totem and, with the help of games, the participants determined who would protect it. A ‘riy’ totem is an image of the ‘riy’ symbol attached to the top of a stick. The stick is tall enough so that the entire totem is 120 cm high. It is looked after by the deputy riy leader or a novak/novachka worthy of such a duty.
  • They reviewed the novatski songs they had already learned and learned two new ones (‘Koly vizmu khustuny (When I Take My Handkerchief)’ and ‘Zaspivaimo po-ukrainsky… (Let’s Sing in Ukrainian…)’) as well as important Plast commands.
  • They talked about where Ukraine and Australia are located and found them on a globe.

Yuntatsvo assigned new roles at the meeting: Sofia, the secretary, made a list of all those present, Vitaliy became the deputy group leader, and Andriy became the group leader. Together with their podruha Nataliya Kulchytska, the children made a poster with the main duties of a Plast member.

The youngest members in ptashata also had their own program:

  • they talked about Plast and the place of the youngest members in it (who we are and why we get together). They also talked about the camp and what to bring with them.
  • They paid close attention to one of the important components of the camp – the bonfire or fire. They discussed the good and bad things that fire can do, and what should never be done.

Experiments with fire:

  1. A candle in the middle of a container + coloured water at the bottom. Cover the candle with a bottle and watch as a vacuum is created, the water rises to the surface until it extinguishes the candle.
  2. Fill the container halfway with water (clean, clear). Carefully place the candle on the water so that it floats on the surface. Using a transparent glass, lower the candle to the bottom of the container – the candle does not go out (if you hold it for a long time, the effect will be the same as in experiment 1) – everyone took turns doing the same thing under the supervision of vykhovnytsia Nataliia Smith.
  3. Example of how fire goes out without air (cover the candle with a transparent glass and wait). Conversely, the greater the air flow, the more the fire will grow.
  4. Rocket – empty a tea bag, turn it inside out and place it perpendicularly. Light the top and when the fire reaches the bottom, the bag rises (flies up) under the flow of warm air.
Conclusion: the birds learned more about Plast and their place in it. They know the answer to the question ‘Ptashata, de vy? – U hnizdechku!’ They know about the camp, how to prepare for it, and what they need to bring with them.

We congratulated the ptasha Nicole on her birthday and played an interesting game where all participants received gifts.
See you at the next meeting!
