During his early years, he took part in camps at Sokil and hiking expeditions through the Carpathian Mountains, experiences that laid the foundations for a lifelong commitment to Plast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1955, Longyn joined Plast in Australia and quickly became an active member of the organisation. He served as a youth leader (<em>vykhovnyk<\/em>) from 1955 to 1969 and as a liaison officer (<em>zviazkovyi<\/em>) from 1963 to 1965. He also served on numerous camp leadership teams and commanded a youth camp in 1963.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Longyn went on to play an important leadership role in Victoria, serving as <em>stanychnyi<\/em> (Branch Leader) from 1970 to 1972 and again from 1979 to 1981.
