Sharing the Light of Peace: Plast Queensland Delivers the Bethlehem Flame

On 21 December 2025, members of Plast Queensland, part of Plast Australia, took part in a meaningful and symbolic act of service by delivering the Bethlehem Peace Light to local Ukrainian churches. This annual tradition, carried out by Plast scouts around the world, represents the sharing of peace, hope, and unity during the Christmas season.

With great honour, the Queensland Plastuny presented the sacred flame to the clergy of the Church of the Holy Protection of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and the Church of the Holy Trinity of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church. The procession began at the Church of the Holy Protection, where, before the Divine Liturgy, the Peace Light was formally handed over to Father Stepan Sapun.

In a heartfelt moment, Father Sapun expressed his gratitude to the young Plast members for their dedication and commitment to preserving this cherished tradition. He blessed them with the candle of peace, reinforcing the spiritual significance of their mission.

The Bethlehem Peace Light is a powerful reminder of the importance of community, faith, and cultural continuity—values that Plast continues to nurture among Ukrainian youth in Australia. Through such acts, Plast Queensland not only honours its heritage but also strengthens the bonds within the broader Ukrainian community, sharing a message of peace that transcends borders.
