Over the King’s Birthday long weekend, our yunatskyi hurtok Mountain Goats braved the elements for an unforgettable winter mini-camp. With temperatures ranging from 3 to 15°C — but often feeling closer to 1 to 11°C — it was a true test of grit, layers, and adventurous spirit.
Campers bundled up in multiple layers at night, and only the boldest dared to face the showers. But the Mountain Goats didn’t let the cold dampen their spirits! Clear, sunny days meant hutirky were held among the trees, where we explored the surrounding forest and even searched for ancient Aboriginal cave art — a moving connection to the land’s first peoples.
Nights were a warm reward for our efforts, with hot beef stew to fill our bellies and gooey s’mores to sweeten our evenings around the campfire.
