In an engaging conversation with Oksana Mazur of SBS Ukrainian Radio, members of the Plast community shared their reflections and aspirations as we celebrate two significant milestones: 75 years of Plast in Australia and 100 years of UPN.
Chrestyna Kmetj, CEO of Plast Australia, hosted Myron Spolsky, Head of Plast Worldwide, and Olenka Bondar of the Holovna Plastova Bulava (HPB) during their inaugural visit to Australia. As special guests from Ukraine, Myron and Olenka brought a global perspective to our local celebrations, offering insights into how Plast continues to unite communities worldwide.
During their visit, druh Myron and podruha Olenka expressed excitement about experiencing Australia’s unique natural wonders, including encounters with koalas and kangaroos. More importantly, they looked forward to strengthening ties with Australian plastuny through the obmin (exchange) program for vykhovnyky. This program has fostered countless positive experiences, enriching both visiting and local members with shared knowledge and cultural exchange.
The discussion also highlighted how Plast shapes young individuals into independent, civic-minded leaders within their communities. Prominent plastuny, past and present, serve as shining examples of the values and skills cultivated through this global scouting organization.
As we look ahead to 2025, the conversation included an overview of upcoming international initiatives. These efforts aim to further strengthen the bonds within the Plast network, ensuring its growth and relevance for generations to come.
The 75th anniversary of Plast in Australia is not just a moment to reflect on the past but also an opportunity to envision the future. With the support of global leaders like Myron Spolsky and dedicated local efforts led by Chrestyna Kmetj, Plast remains a vibrant and essential part of our community.
