On Saturday 18 July, the Plast Queensland Branch held a Town Hall meeting bringing together Plastuny, parents, members of the Ukrainian community, supporters and representatives of the Plast Australia leadership for an open, frank and constructive discussion about the future of Ukrainian Scouting in Queensland.
The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the future operating framework for Plast Queensland, including governance, incorporation, child safety and the practical steps needed to ensure a strong and sustainable future for the branch.
A heartfelt thank you to the Ukrainian Community of Queensland Inc. (UCQ) for generously hosting the meeting and for its ongoing support in providing our young people with a home for their monthly gatherings. We are also grateful to everyone who attended, shared their perspectives and contributed constructively to the discussion.
As a positive outcome of the meeting, three volunteers have committed to supporting the current Plast Queensland leadership with administration, resourcing and progressing the branch’s independent incorporation. Their willingness to step forward is warmly welcomed and demonstrates the strength that comes from members contributing their time and expertise.
Plast has always been built by volunteers. Every generation has relied on members who have been prepared to serve, lead and contribute beyond the weekly program. As Plast Queensland moves through this important transitional period, that tradition of service is more important than ever.
We encourage everyone who carries the Plast spirit—current and former Plastuny, parents, supporters and friends of Plast—to actively support the Queensland leadership. Whether your experience is in governance, administration, finance, communications, child safety, fundraising, youth development or simply a willingness to help, your contribution can strengthen the branch and help build the structures needed for long-term success.
Strong volunteer leadership not only ensures the future of Plast Queensland but also reinforces Plast’s important role within the wider Ukrainian community. By investing our skills, experience and time, we strengthen an organisation that develops resilient, responsible and community-minded young leaders while continuing to serve our community more broadly.
Plast Queensland and Plast Australia remain committed to working together to develop a practical, safe and sustainable operating model that meets legislative child safety requirements while remaining true to the values, traditions and educational purpose of the Plast scouting movement.
